One wonders if the numbers rolling in are any indication of market discontent... early adopters steeling themselves for a hit? Or are we seeing speeches to placate shareholders?

"We have not given up on a unified format. We would like to seek ways for unifying the standards if opportunities arise," Toshiba President Atsutoshi Nishida told an annual shareholders' meeting.

Placate shareholders...BIG time! Both they and Sony "gave up" when they kept playing the angry 2 year olds instead of making the deal.
