with or without hard drive. I recently bought the new Samsung DVD-R145 .... what a waste of time waiting for it to come avaliable, so needless to say I've sent it back !! This brings me to ask for your thoughts on what to look at .... It needs to be a DVD recorder at least to keep the wife happy !!! Been looking at all brands and models (DVD's, DVD recorders, DVD/VCR combo's, DVD/DVR, etc.) and I'm going nuts !!! HELP !!!???

What was wrong with the DVD R145? That's the one I am thinking about buying! It looks great on paper: upconverter & double layer recorder so I do not need 2 units.

As far as a Hard Drive is concerned, if you have cable, get the biggest HD you can afford. Record everything you want to watch, then watch when you want, not when the network tells you. Then delete, or for those things you want to keep, burn to DVD.

Or don't get any hard drive at all, just record onto to an RW and watch whenever you want. Tv shows run from half hour to 2 hour movies. Seldom will you need over 2 hours at SP.
