Sony KDF-E42A10 Image Issues; Help!

I just recently subscribed to DIRECTV and am very unhappy with the reception especially on the lower channels. I think it has more to do with the digital signal and my HDTV. I have the Sony Grand Wega KDF-E42A10. I have the standard DIRECTV receiver. ANy suggestions on how to improve the image? I have it connected using the S-video connection. Could I use a High-Definition Receiver without actually subscribing to the HD package? Thinking it would improve overall picture quality since an HD receiver has Component Video Connections. Any information you can provide would be appreciated. Thank you.

If you want HD signals get yourself an OTA. Otherwise return the tv for a regular digital tv if youre gonna stick with standard DirectTV.

Get their HD package. Why would you spend all that money on an HDTV and then just get regular SD service? I think HD is like $10 a month more. Are you against HD service. DISH has awesomr HD service. If your HDTV has a built in ATSC tuner then you can erect an antenna to get your HD locals via OTA. Check www.antennaweb.org for antenna orientation.

I am definitely not against getting HD programming but was going to try to wait until the end of the year when MDU Communications updates our satellite so we can receive HD locals via the satellite instead of off-air. Contract states MDU must upgrade dish to receive HD locals via the satellite by January 1, 2007. Off-air is a problem because I live in a condominium development and cannot erect an antenna to the roof or outside the building. Our condominium association just contracted with MDU Communications to install DIRECTV. We rec'd a bulk deal on the Total Choice Pkg. Not sure if it's worth getting the HD package until I can get the HD locals via satellite.
