Should have already happened. But sometime is still better than never.

Is anyone manufacturing battery powered "pocket size" digital receivers yet? I'm still seeing plenty of small portables designed to use analog transmisions. As many battery powered LCD screen DVD players as there are it shouldn't be too hard to design one with a digital tuner in it. Battery TVs are a lot more informative than radio when there's a prolonged power failure. Once the analog transmisions end we won't even be able to listen to the audio portion on ourAM/FM/TV sound radios!

The local branch of one electronics chain has been displaying a sign advising customers about the turnover for a couple of months, but neglects to mention the government's plans to offer two discount vouchers per household for digital to analog converter boxes. The sign doesn't explain the fact that many cable and satelitte providors will be offering conversion either. Despite the fact that standard definition digital broadcasts are already available in many markets, the funds for the voucher program aren't scheduled to become available until sometime in 2008!
