Standard DVR vs HD DVR PQ

I just bought a 62" widescreen DLP. Came home hooked it up and was very disappointed in the PQ using my DTV DVR reciever.(I knew that it would not be as good ads in the store since i am not currently set up for HD, but still.)
My question is this if i switch to the DTV HD DVR and use HDMI cables will I see any PQ imporvements at all on the non HD channels (the 198 or so of them) or will the PQ be the same as my standard DTV DVR using s-video.
My DLP supports 1080 but it is only going as high as 480 right now will that improve? only on hd channels or all?

Second question (or 5th or so). Should I wait for the new HD DVR to be released or is there going to be a trade in or upgrade option?

Will probably be about the same. You HDTV supports 1080i, but it converts everything to 720p. That is its native resolution. So 480i wont look as good.
