Since I would not be able to record the HD LOcals with an HR10-250, would I be able to record non HD by connecting my DTivo and thus record the Non hd channels?

If your locals are broadcasting in hd you can record hd signals. It also records the other hd channels directv broadcasts. It can't record or receive MPEG-4.

there is not a way...I had to subscribe to the locals...I guess that is where directv gets ya wallet!

know where you are coming from.the hd record eats up alot of space.

That was the first thing that concerned me when I purchased and installed it. All my previous hd directv tuners had atsc and ntsc capability...the hd250 did not.

I receive hd locals via ota and record hd shows on the HR10-250.Hd locals vary by area,go to www.antennaweb.org enter your zip to see your proximity to local stations. It will also show who's broadcasting in hd,digital or analog.Hope this helps.

You might want to investigate adding another hard drive to your HR10-250. I added a 300 gig hard drive to it to record up to 75 hours of hd programming and like 450 hours of sd. Well worth it for me since I like record every episode of 24 and Prison Break
