 My dilemma: I have PAL disc and I have NTSC Panny 37" plasma, and I would like to watch this disc, but when I've bought DVD player, which, by the way, I check up in the store, and it worked perfectly, but when I connected to my TV it refused to show anything(black screen)!People from Panasonic have told me that I wouldn't be able to watch PAL on Panny, and I should not use a converter, cause converter could damage my tv.Please! Anyone- sugestion! Thank you.

What kind of display did you have it working with in the store?

Are you using the same model DVD player that worked in the store?

Connecting using the Component video output of the player will eliminate any color issues, but while CRT's are more forgiving, if your Panasonic is not designed to handle the PAL scan rate then you are out of luck without using an external converter.

Some DVD players are capable of displaying PAL or NTSC discs on a PAL screen, but it's hard to display PAL on an NTSC screen without a converter as the PAL signal has more scan lines.

Hi,I was using Pioner 32" and I've bought the same item which has been working in the store-SANIO(Region 1 or All).I connected player all posible ways to my TV,but result was the same, aldough another disc(NTSC) worked perfectly. Is it posible that ressult could be different if I get an external converter? But Panasonic sead that using a converter could be damaging to my tv? Thank you. Henry

If your display doesn't support the PAL scan rate and your DVD player doesn't convert PAL to NTSC, the only way it could work is with an external converter. I'm not sure how one would damage the display with an external converter, that sounds questionable, but a converter might be more money than it's worth.

You could try importing the video into a computer, using one of the programs out there that converts PAL MPEG2 files to NTSC MPEG2 files and then burning an NTSC DVD...

Try taking *your* DVD player back to the store and hooking it to the display that worked. If it doesn't work at the store like the other one did, then there is some menu item you have not set correctly for playing back PAL discs.

I'm Mac-based, so I'm not terribly familiar with Nero's capabilities. I can use Roxio Toast to convert between NTSC and PAL.

If your disc is copy protected, this may not work.
