Any News on D* HD Locals?

Well, April has rolled around and rumor has it that more cities will get HD locals from D* this month. In fact a D* rep told me back in February that my area (Charlotte, NC) was scheduled for this month. Has anyone heard or seen anything lately? I have new dish and H20 operational, but thus far nothing.

I doubt whether any of us can answer your question. D* will "turn on" the locals in HD at their own pace, usually later than sooner.

I suggest a good OTA antenna which will bring in your locals in HD, then you won't be waiting on D*. A good quality OTA is a one time investment which will give you benefits for years to come. :yippee:

I was checking around the D* site this morning, and they claim that a few locals are available now here in SF. I'll call tonight to try and figure out what's going on.

DAVID, who did you speak to? I called yesterday and I got the big goose egg from customer install. At least this time they didn't say it was going to cost me for the upgrade. I'm near Seattle.

Here's the email response from DirecTV... I wonder if the "MPEG-4-capable receiver replacement" will cost anything...

Thanks for writing. We will be serving HD local channel in Nashville, TN on April 19, 2006. As you all know, we're already serving select cities and hope to add others by the end of this year. We will be adding more cities soon after these and gradually expanding our coverage over the next two years, as we deploy new satellites that use state-of-the-art MPEG-4 technology. The local channels we offer will carry a mix of digital standard-definition and HD programming.

Once local HD programming launches in your city, you will be eligible for an MPEG-4-capable receiver replacement. If you want to replace your HD DVR, you may need to wait a bit longer. Our new MPEG-4-capable DIRECTV HD DVR is expected to be available sometime later this year.

Thanks again for writing. More details will be available when we launch the local HD service in your area, so watch your local TV, radio or mailbox for upcoming announcements or visit DIRECTV.com/HD for the latest news.

Sincerely,

DIRECTV Customer Service

ssn720, I just called and told them that I heard locals would be on soon. So they set up my upgrade. The bummer was due to the larger dish they would not install it where my old dish is located.
So now I don't know what to do. Because we have winds of over 70mph at the ocean.
