Directv has a good deal

I just bought a house in Edmond (suburb of OKC) and was looking into getting HD service. Currently, I live in an apartment complex that has a contract with SBC for all services-- meaning no HD. I have had to console myself with an HD antenna for the last year and a half.

Anyway, we have Cox for cable in OKC, so I checked them out, plus Dish, and Directv. At first glance Dish and Cox appear to be the best. You can get HD service with Cox with HBO and Showtime for $88.00, including locals. But that does not include Fox or ESPN2-- two channels I consider necessary in HD. For $98, you can get all that with Dish (including ESPN2), but there are no locals.

But, with Directv, I can get every single channel for $99 for the first 15 months (the first 3 mo are at $49). $99 and I get all locals, all channels, and everything available in HD. That seems like a good deal to me! (Directv is adding OKC locals in HD in May.)

Everything for $99 for 15 months do sound good. But if hd locals are avaible via ota I would go that route it would be an uncompressed signal.

I dont know what you mean by "everything in hd". D* has a total of 13 channels in HD. 4 local channels, HBO, Showtime, ESPN2, ESPN, UHD, TNTH, DSHD, HDNM and HDN. And if you want the NFLST in hd that will cost you around $300. And they only show about 4 games in hd per week.

Last year they showed at least 8 games a week in HD.

Your right, between the 1:00 and 4:00 games there were 8. And at least two of the games from 1 & 4 were blacked out. At least that's how it was in my part of the world. But this year there will be no blackouts. That is what I understand. But I'll be with E* by then. :)

both D*,and E* have okc locals.....I have had both within the past few months, and E* has "more" HD as for now but once D* gets the new birds up and going D* will put all of them to shame??? (hopefully) atleast that is what the plans are and OKC in HD are due on D* before the ens of 06 and have not followed E* much but I am sure they will be up shortly also....so just hang on for a few...and you will be in HD up to your eyes...(yea right)...but that is the long and short of it....

They showed a hell of a lot more than 4 NFL HD games a week. All Fox games were in HD, and I think 1/2 of the CBS games.

Next year, they will probably all be broadcast in HD.

I was talking about the "NFLST". Not the local broadcasts.

i guess you havent asked them about the HD dvr's. i wouldnt call 400 bucks a dvr "a good deal". Thus i dumped directv.

What is E*?

And, I'll get 15 channels in HD in OKC, not just 13. I believe the descrepancy is in the locals. We will get 6, not 4. OKC locals in HD will be ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, PBS, and WB(soon to be CW).

Of course I am planning to set up my antenna for just-in-case scenarios, but I would rather not use it. I cannot set it up to get every channel all the time-- I have to move it around to get NBC and, sometimes, ABC. I would rather not have to do that.

Oklahoma City? You better have an antenna for locals, when the weather gets severe, your D* dish will become a very effective paperweight.

I am in TN and that is exactly what happened to me last night, no D*, the only thing that kept me informed about the weather was my antenna.

PBS & WB are not in hd on D*.

E* is Dishnetwork.
