Lamp lumens output

I have a Sony 42WE655. The original lamp has approximately 5000hrs. I noticed that the onscreen image is not as bright as it was when the set was new. Does this mean that the lamp is getting ready to fail, or will it get dimmer and dimmer until it finally gives out? I thought that these lamps had a pretty constant lumen output throughout the lamp life??

Lamps typically lose about 30% of their brightness after the first 300 hours of use and then plateau for most of the remaining life of the lamp. It does lose a bit more after a while but once it closes in on it's useful life, there may not be any continuous dimming but rather just suddenly die. Sounds like you should get that extra lamp now to have at your side when needed. :)

That's exactly what I did. I bought a replacement lamp from Sony, and it's now sitting in my closet waiting for that fateful day. :D
