HR10-250 AV Feed "Skipping"

I've had my HR10-250 for a while (few months) and have started noticing that about every half hour or so the audio and video feed "skips" (best analogy I could think of). The video and audio stops (hangs???) for about 1-second and then everything continues on as normal. There do not appear to be any AV sync problems either. It does not occur on the hour or half hour, so I don't think it's related to the second tuner changing while recording.

Anybody else notice this product feature?

it happens on mine, mostly on hd channels. I notice it on espn hd a lot.

Me too! I thought it might be an HD DVR problem but since I never saw a post here I believed it to be just mine.

For me, it happens on HD and non-HD channels.

Anyone else?

It happens to me a lot too! I have only experienced it on HD channels, mostly ESPN. I am waiting for the third technician and on my second receiver. I think the problem is in the receiver, but could be wrong.

This is a well known issue with the HR10-250. Check out the Tivo Community and you will find many, many complaints about this. I have gone through 3 HR10-250s and they all have done the same thing. For me, ESPN HD and ABC HD are the worst, but I have video and audio stuttering on all channels at one time or another. Both on Satellite and OTA. Mostly HD, but occasionally SD also. Lots of complaints about this from others, but no real answers. The stuttering is pretty random. Many theories, but very few real answers. It's quite frustrating. I've been trying to figure out the root of the problem for over a year now with no luck. I suspect it is a combination of problems. Some from the broadcast itself, some as a result of a possible flaw or weakness with the HR10-250 unit.

I believe it is the unit itself. It usually happens to me when I have been watching something in delay, then I catch up to real time. I can watch for about five minutes or so with everything being perfectly normal, then it will skip on me. Sorry, no answers for a fix, other than wait on the HR20 (sits, whistles, and twiddles thumbs).

The problem is that the original hard drives that are in the HR10-250 are not made very well. The magnetic film on the disk is thin and wears out. That is why there is only a one year warranty on the HR10-250. From what I read on other forums on the internet, you can replace your hard drive for around $100 ($20 for Instant Cake (URL=http://www.ptvupgrade.com/products/instantcake)and $80 for a Seagate 250GB hard drive).

Interesting...considering the unit has crashed a few times as well, I wonder if this would qualify as a warrantable issue?

Thanks for the feedback.

I just had the H10 installed this week, and also have the video skipping problem. The video would black out for 2-3 sec, but the sound would continue. I called D* and they are sending me out a new one, and gave me a $60 credit and starz/showtime for 3 months. I have been a loyal D* customer for over 6 years, and just upgraded from my Sony T-60 that lasted over 4 yrs. Hopefully the new one will solve the problem because the pix quality is awesome, but can't wait for the mp4 dvr to come out soon.

Now it's time to get a replacement Hard Drive for the old T-60, got to milk as much out of the original $149 lifetime Tivo and put it in the bedroom.

Let me guess, your H10 was hooked up through HDMI cables?

Just thought I would add that I am also experiencing the same problem. DIrettv sent out a replacement DVR and it seems to be worse.

I am sure its the hard drive, also it will pixelate (sp) from time to time. I was beginning to think that it was my TV (Samsung DLP) glad to hear its not. I am also experiencing synch problems with the sound, could this be related?

I have 2 of the HR10-250's, one in the living room and one in the bedroom. I have them connected to Pioneer Elite's Pro-1130 HD Plasmas. Both units skip or freeze on me as well. Just got off the phone with Direct TV, and the tech said that there was no known issue, and then I find this thread on this site. I had the same problem about 8 months ago with the very first unit I had, the tech had me do a total system reboot which cleared everything on it only for the unit to continue to skip. They sent me a brand new unit, and it was fine for awhile, so I bought my second unit, and now both of them are jumping, freezing and skipping. I don't have access to cable, live in the woods, so its either Direct TV or Dish, and I won't have no Dish im my home. Guess the new equipment when available will help solve the problem, as of now, I will have to live with it I guess. I will call back and let them no this is a known issue.

Seems I have a similar problem. Once in a while, my picture blacks out with both the video and audio on both HD and non HD channels? When called DTV just said they had never seen the problem? What can I do?

I have two H10-250's and they've been doing it ever since I got them. I've posted on here a few times about it in the past (up to a year ago) and it never got much attention. I replaced my multi-switch and LNB during this time without success. Guess it just took critical mass of the units before enough came here to see if others had the problem. DTV acted like they'd never heard of it and blamed dish aiming. I've got over 90 on all transponders save one or two.

Also, anyone else getting really annoyed at how long it takes for the unit to process a Season Pass recording? I've waited 2 minutes before the damn thing gets back to regular programming. "Please Wait" would be burned into an older CRT by now if that's what it was connected to! The really bad thing is that I paid $999 for each one of them!

Me to, from time to time sreen flashes to black and back, and parts of audio drop out.
VERY ANNOYING happens with varying frequency.
This should not happen, called DIRECT TV many times.
A tech told me this is a know issue by DTV and they deny it.
They say all they heard of was the HDMI issue.
I am using Component.

If they don't get this fixed I am getting rid of this.
Never happened to my regular boxes before HD/TIVO.
Been hell since.
AND THE GUIDE NAVIGATION IS WAY TOO SLOW, ALMOST UNBAREABLE.
DON'T LIKE THIS BOX - HD PIC IS GREAT WHEN IT WORKS.
AT THIS PRICE THESE ISSUES AHOULD NOT HAPPEN.
