does the Vip622 have a dvi output on it? Just curious as to which cable i need to hook up to my Sony 50" HDTV (KDS-R50XBR1) .

Thanks for the help. I was looking into: HDMI DVI cable (24AWG) w/ferrites and net jacket-10ft (Gold Plated) (NF) off of MonoPrice.com will this work with the tv and the reciever?

Yes, but you can use component to component too. There may not be much difference. It's good to try both and see how you like the HD picture either way, especially if you only have one HDMI input in your display, although you can get a switch for other devices.

How much is the 622? I called Dish Network and they said it would be $299 (one time charge) for the HD receiver. Is that right? Is there no monthly charge after that?

Thanks,

Lease charge....5 or 6 bucks.....if you don't want to lease, then pay about double the $299.

Thanks Daleb... I guess I need to call them back and get that figured out.

Thanks,

I believe there is a $6/mo. charge after the initial $299. I posted a similar question over in the DBSTalk group and am copying it here to see what others here think. All input welcome.

Hope I'm asking this question in the right group. A month ago I took advantage of the Dish'n It Up program and got a 625 to replace two regular dishplayers. A week later I broke down and got a Sony KDF-E60A20 (60" hdtv).

I called Dish about a possible swap out my 508 or 625 for a 622 now that I have an HDTV but was read the "only one upgrade per year" spiel, so I gave up and checked eBay but no deals there on the 622. Today I had to call Dish on another matter so I asked the CSR about any possible deals available and was told I could swap out the 508 for a 411 for $49. Upon announcing that I thought that would be a downgrade for $49 since there was no DVR on the 411,I was then offered a 622 for a "bargain" price of $299 and an 18 month commitment. No problem on the commitment as I've just started an 18 month commitment anyway. So now not wanting to to yield to temptation and jumping to the offer then coming here to read and find I've been suckered, I'm asking my fellow HD and/or big screen addicts the magic question. "Is $299 a reasonable ransom given the fact that I've used up my one-upgrade-a-year privilege or is $299 too much for the difference in quality. Is there going to be a noticeable difference on the E60A20 quality? Thanks for any input, this group has been an invaluable source of info over the years.

It should deliver all the goods you can handle for 1080i broadcasting over the next 18 months. It is not likely any receiver is going to come along to make your display look any better than it can right now. You either have all the signal quality you can get or you don't.

The big thing is the DVR. Something Dish seems to have perfected quite well in the realm of cable/satellite providers. And over the next 18 months, I am not sure how much more they can do in that area other than a few more features and disk space.

Does the 622 comes with an HDMI cable or would I have to supply my own?

You will need to get your own cable, it does not come with a 622

Thanks, Garys. Does anyone have a good source for reasonably priced HDMI cables? I don't want to pay sucker prices for Monster.

Hope I can say the same soon Cbuster. The 8th of April can't come soon enough, but first I need to see a delivery at my front door.

Do tell us about your experience. How long have you had your 622 and can you see a great difference in your picture quality? I can't wait to test drive hd programming on my E60A20.
