Just purchased a HD ready TV. Samung 23. Current D* subscriber using older Hughes receiver that works fine. Want OTA HD local channels but need a HD receiver. Bought the H20, set it up and discover that it won't display OTA without activation. D* want a 2yr commitment and if I cancel, the receiver goes back to them, even though I bought it. Anyone know how I can use the old receiver and the H20 without activation for OTA, if possible.

wait.. you have to have a 2yr commitment if you were to buy the receiver from a place like newegg.com ? :( i thought it was just for if you were to lease it.

Seems to me you can close out the hughes card and box and substitute the H20 box in its place......you don't have to buy the D* HD package......just use the H20 receiver to get the same package you were receiving with the hughes.........then you can use the H20 for OTA........

and..........someone can clarify this for me, but I think you also need the triple LNB and oval dish for the H20.

Yes. I bought H20 from WalMart. 98.99. D* will activate but with a 2 yr commit. Latest info I got is that it can be activated without the 2 yr commit but if cancelled, must sent them the receiver or be charged a pro rate fee. Several calls and several diff answers.

So if I were to cancel one of my recievers and used a H20 in its place i could get the HD package and everything without any commitment ?

Yes if U upgrade to H20 U do not have to commit. Its only for new service. Also I tried using mine to view OTA before inserting Card and it would not work with out DTV service
