I was just called told by d* that I cannot use the 250 with 5 lnb is this true? Installer is on his way out and said he didn't know for sure. I'm swapping my h10 for h20 and keeping the 250.

From what I am hearing you can use the 5 LNB with the h10-250 HD DVR, the only thing is you will not get local channels in HD since the h10-250 is mpeg2 and not mpeg4, but check me on that to be sure.

That sounds right, I was just curious when the box ask how many lnb's you have and only goes to 3 if that could be a problem.

right, that box will only show 3 LND's since it is not MPEG4 comptable, I am assuming once the new box comes out mid 06 it will show 5 LNB's in the setup. I it just nice to have the 5 LNB now so you don't have to worry about getting it installed later when the new MPEG4 HD DVR comes out.

It will not cause you any problems at all. I have an H10-250, an H20, and two R10s all hooked up to the 5 LNB dish, no problems whatsoever. The only thing the H10-250 can't do is see the MPEG4 local HD channels.

Can the H10-250 record the local ABC, NBC, CBS in Non-HD if I have the LNB5? Or are the local Non-HD also trasmitted in MPEG4 with the LNB5? I realize I won't be able to record local HD but I need something to record with. I have premium HD channels which I believe are MPEG2 still so not all is lost with the H10-250.

You can record you Local OTA stations fine with the unit. Currently the only peices that are MPEG4 are HD Locals (via SAT) and a few locals in Alaska and Hawaii.

Thanks, I'll try the OTA if I get the HR10-250 but hopefully I can at least record locals in SD from the LNB5 into the HR10-250. I don't care about recording one show and watching another so I assume I can use a single coax to the HR10-250 rather than 2 lines for now.

Recording SD from the 5 LNB dish will work fine. They are all transmitted in MPEG2 except for Alaska and Hawaii. You can run just one coax if you only want to be able to record the show that you are watching.
