Does anyone know the timing of the rollout of the new mpeg-4 HD DVR (HR-20?)? I had read that the release would begin on the west coast, but I have heard that other markets have had the receiver introduced. I am in the Tampa Bay market and looking forward to the new receiver. Currently I have the TiVo HD DVR.

Not until June of this year, and yes it will start in San Francisco Bay Area.

I guess June IS in the 2nd quarter, as hoped for, just the opposite end of it ...

So DirecTivo days are really numbered. I heard that D* was going to swap out the old ones for the new HD dvr that is coming out. Is this still true?

Also does anyone know if you need to swap out your DirecTivo or can you just keep using it as is with the same programming/channels?

Nobody really knows for sure, the rumor is , it will be swapped out, that said, D* has made no official announcement

I am sure they will do something, just not sure what ...

I talked to 2 D*reps the other day. The 1st knucklehead said she knew nothing about the new dvr and she tried selling me the old one. I ALREADY HAVE ONE!! Then I talked to another knucklehead ( by the way, let's start calling D* reps "K*") and he said he knew nothing about a swap and the new dvrs will cost $799. He didn't seem to know about a lease.

The lack of knowledge by D*TV reps concerning the roll out of HD locals is appalling. By simply reading basic info about the transition to MPEG-4, the new receivers, etc. I have unfortunatley found myself more informed than the reps I have dealt with at D*TV. Thanks for folks like those in the Forum who share what limited information we have.

Hey, Jimbos - see you in Phoenix (Glendale) on January 8!
