So, if we don't get the H20 we won't be able to view the locals in HD? Does meg4 provide better PQ across the board? Is the H20 technically and physically a better receiver? In other words, if we are happy with OTA HD is there a compelling reason to go with the H20?

From what I've read on this forum before the D* HD signal will be compressed and not as good as the OTA signal. I have the H20 without the new 5LNB dish and receive my local HD channels just fine via OTA. I don't plan on getting the new dish unless it required for the national HD feeds and it dosen't sound like it will be.

Your're correct about not needing the H20 for any new national channels. If someone could compare the PQ of the H20 compressed MEG4 vs OTA HD that would be very helpfull. I have heard that the H20 has better software that may provide better national HD PQ and better SD.

Have you read the posts ??

It seems most posters say the MPEG4 signal/equipment is worse than what we have now.

I'm in one of the 24 cities listed as April 06, but I am in NO HURRY to switch (maybe when they quit suppodting my HD Tivo) :(

I disagree, the majority of us who have the new H20 and AT9 dish have been fully satisfied!!! My H20 works great plus I'm able to get more OTA channels than before with the new 2nd Generation chip within it! My OTA channels dosent look any better than MPEG4 LIL HD channels. D* have gotten alot better since the recent software upgrades. Picture and Audio problems are a minimum now!!

But I see many posts from others who don't seem to agree !!

It seems some are happy with the MPEG4 set-up and some are not !!

As for me, I am not convinced & will hold out until I see near unanamous opinion in the approval column before I jump on the new equipment.

My OTA works exceptionally well, my HD DVR works exceptionally well, my wife's SD DVR works well, so I am not about to move to equipment unless I am really sure I will see an improvement.

Have I read the posts? Yes I've read the posts. Obviously having read the previous posts certainly doesn't satisfactorily clear up any questions. The more people that chime in with their observations the easier it will be for the rest of us to make a decesion. For the many that are happy with their OTA reception the question remains, does the H20 deliver a better national HD PQ and or a better SD PQ? Anybody know how the HDDVR will compare with the competition?

I have the 3 LNB system with 2 SD Tivos and 1 HD Tivo. My HD Tivo works great, my OTA works great (indoor because I am only 7 miles from the farthest station) and most of all my wife's SD Tivo works great...got to keep the wife happy. :yippee: There is no way I am even thinking of switching to the 5 LNB MPEG 4 system until they offer the new MPEG 4 HD DVR and it is proven.
