This is on sale at Outpost.com for $60 + shipping: http://shop3.outpost.com/product/4662398

Seems like a good deal for an upconverting DVD player. Anyone own this or have any thoughts?

I own the DVD-HD950 and DVD-HD841. Both of mine and the HD755 use an all-in-one Zoran Vaddis chip for de-interlacing and upscaling which isn't highly regarded according to the Secrets Benchmark tests. I am happy with the picture quality with mine, particularly the HD950 which is better. Unfortunately my HD950 just started having problems and I have a Samsung authorization to send it in for warranty repair. It has been used heavily for a few months so I am not sure the players hold up well under heavy use.

Thanks for the feedback. I took the plunge on this DVD player because it was affordable and that is important to me as it will hold me over until the HD dvd wars are over/prices come down.

I don't give my current DVD any heavy use so that shouldn't be an issue for me.

Nope, I own both and neither does. It will however auto resume if you turn it off while the disc is playing rather than hit stop and then power off.

Hi bp;

I picked up the same unit from Fry's in Las Vegas. I haven't tried it out yet except to see if it will play disks recorded on My Samsung and Panasonic recorders - and it does. I have to wait until I get home to try it on my Sony RPT.

What kind of results have you been getting - is it worth the money?

Thanks

Reg

I've only watched one movie on it since I've had it and I thought the pic quality was good. For the $60 I paid for this I think it was worth it but I was upgrading from an old DVD that didn't even have progressive scan.

Eventually I want a HD DVD or Blu-Ray player but I am waiting til the prices drop so this will do for now.

I have a 755 ordered ($59 at outpost.com) and just read an Amazon review (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BO6RO8/sr=8-1/qid=1143140940/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-3182935-4634547?%5Fencoding=UTF8) that says Dolby 5.1/DTS won't work through the HDMI, which is the key reason I bought the thing. (I want sound to go through the TV and then to the A/V receiver to solve a lip sync problem).

I read the manual on the Samsung web site and it isn't clear that this is a restriction.

I guess I'll find out soon enough, but does anyone know if Dolby/DTS goes out through the HDMI cable?

Well I hooked up the 755 and sure enough the Dolby 5.1 came out through the HDMI cable! Well, I'm pretty sure it came out. The sound went into my SONY KDS-R50XBR1 and played on the TV's internal speakers. I had hoped that I'd be able to route the sound from the TV into my A/V receiver - but the SONY won't do it.

I had a Samsung Hi-Def conversion DVD player, I returned it the next day. I watched several movies and barely saw any difference what so ever. When I returned the Samsung DVD player I bought a LG Hi-Def conversion DVD player and wow what a difference. With the LG I was able to really see the improvment unlike with the Samsung
