Venturing into DVR

02-21-2006, 11:20 PM
Hello, I'm looking for information on DirecTV's DVR. We got DirecTV in our home about 6 years ago now, and I'm looking to see what my options for getting the DVR are. It seems that the Free DVR offer is only for new customers, so it looks like I'll be paying for the unit itself. However, I'm not sure as to what I will be able to do with it. We currently have one round satellite with one LSAT(?) going to the main TV. This set up will not allow for recording and watching different things simultaneously, right? I have some more questions but I'll hold off for a bit to avoid having a wall of text.

Everything you inquired about is correct. Simply replacing your existing D* receiver with a D* DVR will work, but no simultaneous stuff. If you get the DVR and it doesn't come with a dual LNB just go to Walmart $ 39.95 for dual LNB ( alot more at Best Buy) . Just swap the LNB on the Dish . And of course you'll need another cable run (Get RG6 cable-important!)
But you should know that DTV does have rebates even for existing customers, and one really good reason to have them come out is if there are any problems with install or the unit itself, they'll 2 day ship you another one. Problems definitely can happen.

I have the round dish with a single LNB, I have a regular reciever upstairs and a DVR downstairs with both tuners hooked up and can record 2 programs at once. It CAN be done. I recommed the professional install though.
