Just got a directv hd dvr, and have a samsung HL-R5067W hd set. The set has the following inputs on it: HDMI, S-Video and Component video inputs. The DVR has all of the above outputs. Which DVR output will give me the best picture on the tv?

S-Video is lower quality compared to the other two. Test HDMI and component and see which one looks better to you.

Thanks- I'll give them both a try.

s-viedo is not going to give you the best picture or even HD. You must use the G,R,B or the hmi. I would not use the Hmi cables that came with the box but get a good one from somewhere else, I got mine from Sams Club. The other cables are ok. When using the componet cables you must use the sound cables too(the white and the red) but not the yellow one.

It's HDMI...not HMI. :) There's no problem with trying the HDMI cable that's provided (if one is provided) and see if the quality is good before spending money on another cable. As for the audio cables, the red/white are for analog audio only so if you have a surround sound system...you'll want to use digital coax or optical for Dolby Digital/DTS decoding.
