i got mine yesterday, hooked it up with a hdmi/dvi cable. so far so good. i read some other posts that with the hdmi you have to turn on the tv first and then the reciever because of some handshake signals. give that a try. good luck!

Hey guys I've been doing some research and E* is in fact having problems with HDMI. Some of the boxes are actually frying the HDMI....Yes I mean smoke from the box!!! When it is connected to HDMI. Well I hope the rest of you have a good box I of course am stuck with component cables and trust me I can tell the difference!!! I will continue and demand a new box, but if they are all lemons what can we do?

There were reports about the HDMI on 211vip and 622,The best you can do is try to get a replacement unit from Dish.

I was having problems with my 411. Tonight I tried turning the receiver on first, then waited 5-10 sec and turned on the tv. It worked good every time. I don't know if it fixed my problem, or if I just got lucky

I had an hdmi problem with my 211 too and this is why......
I called Dish Network technical and found out that the 211 does not work with Sony or Samsung and some other television brands.
In my case I had a hissing sound whenever people talked coming from my tv when HDMI was connected. This HDMI problem is just the way the 211 is with certain televsion brands or certain televiosn models..PERIOD. It is not compatable with some.
I use my component cables and the picture and sound is fantastic !

Highly Doubtful , especially if you called the 833 Dish # & got that answer from one of the unqualified "customer service" people.
HDMI doesn't carry audio signals (Video Only) Same with Component Video & S-Video (Video Only)

It's either the HDMI Cable causing some sort of interference with the audio output on the receiver or it's your t.v.'s audio or stereo.

Dish wouldn't engineer a receiver that wasn't compatible with probably one of the best tv manufactures (SONY) in the U.S.

Tell them you want the 411, my service tech said it was better than the 211 and they were installing them instead of the 211' numerous problems. ;)

Your actually wrong HDMI carries audio and video. DVI is video only!

Aha!

I stand corrected!

I would seperate everything coming out of a hi def receiver regardless if I could combine AV signals down the same line. It's like taking A coax from your 211 to your hi def Receiver & then raving about how awesome the picture & sound are.
