Getting ready to buy a DLP, I was going to buy a Toshiba 62" but after reading in these forums all the problem they have in getting bulb replacement, not sure now what kind to get. What brand definetly would be no problem, thanks Gary

Wonder why lamp availability TODAY is more important than a whole host of other things that one has to live with on a daily basis. The current models use a new and differnt lamp assy than prior models and in being new, availability is more limited than something that has been around for a while. I suspect availability to be less of an issue down the road in a few months.

If this is such a big issue for you, why don't you find out who will be servicing the set and ask them about lamp availability and their plans on stocking them.

I wouldn't rule out a specific brand because of a service issue you may not have to face for several thousand hrs of usage and may not even be an issue when the time comes.

YMMV

:hithere: I own the Mitsubishi 52725 DLP, and according to their owners manual, they will reimburse me $100 when I return the old projection bulb to them

Yo Bill,
But honestly, does anyone think there is a "Free lunch" RTFP (read the fine print). Is it:

$300 for the bulb with $100 back if you have the old bulb, bought from us. Oh, and the after market people are selling the same bulb for $200.
or
Turn it on, get the set hot, pull the plug and blow the bulb and do that ten times and get a new bulb and essentially you get your set for a grand less than you paid for it.
What exactly is that warranty?

One needs to check their particular bulb application closely. Sometimes aftermarket lamps are no cheaper, and in some cases can even cost more.
