I just got a Sony KDF-E42A10 and tried to hook it up to my very cheap Costco DVD player through admitedly cheap component cables. With the new DVD players coming out this year, I didn't want to put money down on an HDMI player that I would just replace in the near future.

The problem is that no blue is coming through. The other colors seem to be there and are more crisp than the old school cable, but no blue. I tried the other HD inputs on the TV but same problem.

Is there a way to tell which one is the problem? (TV, DVD or cables?)

I don't have any friends with HD that I could take the DVD player over to. Can i test the calbes with a voltometer to make sure they are at least working somewhat?

Sure, could be a bad cable. Or just plug any RCA to RCA cable in place of the blue one, and see if it works.

You can also cross the 3 cables around. Switch the red and blue for example, and see if the red cable works with the blue input, etc. And if the one marked blue does not give you red when hooked up to red, you know the that cable is bad for sure.
