DVD Player/Recorder?

01-30-2006, 01:43 PM
I'm having an impossible time finding a machine that is both:

a) a high quality player (for a plasma TV)

b) a half-way decent recorder

Also, do I care if it has a hard drive if I'm going to be recording from a Tivo box anyway? I don't think so, but if I should care, please let me know why.

I'm looking for component output for playback, but I really don't care so much about input, as the only reason I'd be recording would be if I were recording tv shows to share with a friend or archive for myself to analyze writing structure (not that concerned about fantastic image/sound quality of the burned DVD).

Please help, I've wasted hours and hours and hours of my time wading through forums and web sites looking for the answers I need, and I'm coming up completely empty.

The closest I can come to an answer on my own is to buy a player based on quality and then some cheap-o recorder, but I think I'll end up spending more that way. ACK!

Thank you so much for any and all help!!!!

The Pioneer 531H which is a model sold by Wal Mart is a good deal at $298.00. It does have a built in HDD of modest size, but it is an excellent recorder and player, with component outputs and 480p output. composite and S-video inputs as well as RF for the built-in tuner. Just as easy to use as a VCR.

These are almost gone, so you may have to check several Wal-marts to get one. 2005 model.
