Burn in? What's the big deal?

Isn't there only burn in if you leave the same image on the screen for a long time? Well why the heck would one do that? Just turn the TV off lol. Seriously why do I so often read people citing burn in as a negative? If you put say a DVD or video game on pause just turn the tv off right?

 I owen a TV repair shop, burn in on a CRT/RPTV
can and will happen over time .Ex: the "crawl" on CNN and outher stations or "logos" in the corner of the picture displayed for one-3 hrs
a day over time will cause a "shadow" burn in area of the screen.
I watch CNN on my RPHD/CRT type TV and use my remote to resize the picture to not show the "crawl" side-bars-and the such to help prevent burn-in.hth
