Sony 34XBR960 SD PQ

How does picture quality of an SD broadcast on the Sony 34xbr960 compare to the picture quality of an SD broadcast on a Sony SD tv?

I've read on some other forums that SD picture quality is not as good as on an SD tv and I don't want to spend nearly $2K for an HDTV if I will not have as good an image as I have on my old Sony 27" set. I'm only using OTA broadcast sources and several of my local stations either don't have HD or don't have reliable HD signals at this point so I will still be watching SD regularly.

Thanks

Fred

If you're planning on watching SD regularly for the foreseeable near future, then you may not be ready for an HDTV purchase. However, IMO the Sony model you mentioned does probably the best job of displaying SD images.

Have you gotten a showroom clerk to send an SD signal to these models for you to view with your own eyes?

NBC, CBS, FOX, & PBS (although I understand its different programming than their SD broadcast) broadcast HD, but ABC & WB don't, but I'd still like to watch what I can in HD, but it won't be 100% HD. In addtion watching DVD's w/ progressive scan player should be better and I'd like to be able to view digital still photos w/ higher resolution.

I've looked at the 960 at our local WorstBuy where they only feed SD signals to the tv's but they feed such lousy signal that you really can't tell anything from it. The 960 picture in the store looked worse than many of the el-cheapo no names on the shelf next to it and none of the other stores in the area have a 960 in stock so I'm trying to gather what information I can on the forums before deciding to place an order.

Thanks
