Any general thoughts on the optimal viewing distance for the 50" sony sxrd?

Just curious. The room I think I am going use for my new TV would place the couch and chairs around 9 feet from the TV. I assume that will look nice. Thoughts?

The other issue is I do have a nice, but small, room in the basement that is already set up for home theater (just bought the house). However I think from couch to TV would only be about 7 feet. Doable or too close?

Any thoughts on how the 50" sxrd relates to a 50" plasma regarding proximity to the set when viewing?

Thanks for all the help.

My room is 20x12. I sit about 9-10 feet away. Awesome.

For that size room, I really think a 60 would be too big, but that could just be self-justification. :)

As for Plasma, IMHO, the SXRD looks substantially better than plasma due to my being able to discern the screendoor effect from that distance.

HTH!

In the manual for the 50"/60" SXRD sets, Sony recommends a minimum viewing distance of 6.6 feet for the 50" SXRD. You should be ok with either location.

Happy viewing!

I sit 6' - 8' from my 50" 720p DLP... 100" is the rule of thumb (8' 4")

Here's my 50" SXRD in my 20/12 viewing room, the seating works just right, although the chair by the set is obviously too close and used only occasionally. 8-9 ft. for this set seems ideal.

You can comfortably sit closer to a 1080i/p set than a 720 p set of the same size. 7feet is fine with the 50" SXRD but is a little close for Sony's current 50" 3LCD 720p RPTV. I've seen them both, side by side, being fed the same HD program in the HDTV room of our local Sony store. Pesonally, I'd sit 8-9 feet away from either because that provides the best furniture arrangement in my living room. A 60" set just overpowers the room.

How is your view from the couch at an angle? This seems to be the one draw back for me. The picture quality on the SXRD seems to diminish from any angle except directly in front. I love this television, but i keep waiting because of the viewing angle. We watch alot of television from various (extreme) angles. Now SED has piqued my interest.
