I've had my Sony KV-34HS420 for about 2 years now. I noticed a few months ago that there were 3 horizontal lines, it appears to be 1 pixel in width going across the screen. one line is about 1/4 down from the top, and the same 1/4 up from the bottom and another about 1/3 from the bottom. You can really see them when watching a hockey game for example, where there is alot of white or bright colors. Now that I noticed them they start to bug me when watching hockey games.

I went to Best Buy to see if the floor TV had them, and low-and-behold, they had the same lines. Is this a known 'problem' with Sony TV's? Is it on every TV?

Thanks for your help!!!!!

The three lines you see are the horizontal support wires of the "aperture grill" (a system of vertical wires) used in Sony CRT's since they first introduced their Trinitron picture tubes in 1968. The aperture grill serves the same function (improve picture sharpness) as the "shadow masks" used by other manufacturers.

And so does my NEC computer monitor. :)

Very Interesting. I have the same TV and they are app. the same age.
I do not have this issue. I just double checked. I belive what the other poster says it is, but it does not seem it should be there.

I just noticed those same lines on my TV. They are barely noticeable, but he fact that they are there irritate the heck out of me! Is there anything I can do to be rid of them?

Oh it's there...Sony doesn't make this model with a traditional shadow mask. You need a strong white solid background and you'll notice them.

Sorry about that :o

For the most part I don't notice them, but as with you, once I saw them and know they are there, I see them more often. I knew a few computer screen manufacturers had them, so I figured it was meant to be there.

From Agoraquest, Sony enthusiasts forum:
"The horizontal shadow lines are probably the stiffener wires. They hold the vertical shadow wires in position. There are probably 2 or 3 of them, evenly spaced top to bottom."

I see them on my Sony too, but I only noticed after I sat 2 feet from the TV. I had my Sony for almost 3 years and never noticed them, but now I try to find them whenever I watch TV. They are about 3" from the top and bottom on my 36" TV.
