i recently bought a HDTV. i noticed that when i am watching a football game or espn that it cuts the scores off at the bottom (this is only while viewing a high def station). i just got my high def cables for the the xbox 360 and while playing tony hawk underground i noticed it cuts off the bottom of the screen when i am talking to characters in the game.

i have tried to look for a setting that i can change but have been unable to locate anything.

any suggestions?

thanks

What tV do you have? Have you tried adjusting the screen in the menu to toggle it upward?

You might go here:

http://www.rca.com/customerservice

Assuming you have combed through your owner's manual, some displays have a small overscan adjustment in the user menu, for others it can only be tweaked in the service menu.

A service manual is available from...

http://www.thomsonnetwork.com/unprotected/Dynamic/1,5078,-A193D968ECE9F4CCE0339DFEEACCF4CC,00.html

Be careful in there!

But you are describing an "overscan" problem that can be most certainly rectified. It will require rebuilding to some extent the coarse geometry and then fine tuning convergence.

If it is something you consider to be "too much", then a service call will be required from an RCA tech or you could have an ISF tech fix that and also calibrate the grayscale as well.

Good Viewing,

I spent the while day trying to find a post explaining how to access/adjust my settings in the service menu in my RCA D52W20 TV. I have never been able to see the sports scores and news tickers because due to the screen size it was cut about in half. Once I got into the service menu it was a breeze!

To access TV's service menu:

1. Turn TV off.
2. FROM THE TV PANEL (not the remote) Press the Vol- and the CH- simultaneously. HOLD them until you hear the TV power on.
3. The TV's service menu will appear and can be navigated the same way you work the basic TV setup menu.
4. MOST IMPORTANT!! DO NOT CHANGE ANY SETTING UNTIL YOU WRITE DOWN THE CURRENT SETTINGS. You will never remember what the default value is so do yourself this favor and save the embarrasment of explaining to to the service tech that you screwed it up worse than it was originally.

To fix the screen size problem:

1. Go to the GEOMOETRY menu.
2. Adjust the VERTICAL AMPLITUDE until the screen is back where you want it. Your TV picture is still present while changing settings so you can see the effects of your changes. (Again, make sure you know what the original setting is before you make any changes.)
3. After you are satisfied with your changes, scroll to the bottom of the menu and check the STORE box.
4. Navigate to the beggining of the menu to QUIT.

Power of the TV and turn it back on to confirm changes.

Good Luck!
