Dumping UVerse

New to forums here and going to dump Uverse and we are considering Dish, DTV and Cox but Dish has best whole home DVR pricing available. Has anyone else here made the switch from Uverse and if so any regrets? Really making the switch due to paying $250.00 month for internet (18Mbps), Phone and TV but we really do not need phone any longer and uVerse internet is the absolute worse for steady speeds.

Need (4) total TV's with (3) being HD and only real important feature for us is the whole home DVR but everyone seems to have that now.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Salesguru: I have been a long time (14yr) dish customer, but also have Direct TV at my cabin up north, so can probably give a fairly honest answer.

I love the hopper / joey system, it is a big improvement over all the other options in my opinion. I also really like Primetime Anytime, and especially the "hop" function dish is taking so much heat for now. There are pluses and minuses to all the different vendor packages, but after using Direct for over a year now at my other place, I still can't get used to it, and it just seems inferior in general. I think Dish hardware and software is superior.

It all depends on content however, and for that, I give the nod to Direct. If you like 3D content, Dish will greatly disappoint (this is my major beef with Dish). Direct also seems to fair better on content contract negotiations, ie: AMC, et.al.

I'm sorry I cannot advise you regarding Cox, but I think you will be happy with either Direct or Dish. With regard to internet, Dish will be pushing 12MBs satellite speeds after launching their new satellite last fall, but I think you will always be stuck with a 1/2 second lag time - which is a killer for any type of real time internet gaming. If you elaborate more on the specific features that are important to you, I would be happy to respond with more feedback.

Good luck!

Hi Jamaica, thank you for the feedback. Only real important wants are a good HD lineup (no 3D now so no biggie) that provides good HD quality as I am a bit of a HD snob on picture quality. The whole home DVR is the next most important to the family as we all are used to it with ATT right now but it sounds like their setup is really good as well.

Going to sign up with Cox for internet as in our area they are really the only other option besides UVerse and as their lagtime is crazy on gaming as well.

Thanks again!

Hi Salesguru:

I am also new to the forum and found it looking for customer info after I made the switch from Uverse to DISH. I had TV and Internet with UVERSE, and foudn that I could save $ by spliting TV with DISH and Internet with Comcast Xfinity. The customer support people online with DISH gave me all the info I wanted and made me lots of promises that they were not able to keep. Now I am stuck with my DISH for 2 years and can only upgrade the programming without incurring extra install charges. Was promised that it would work like my uverse, but only the hopper/joey's will do that. Also, make sure they include any wifi adapters that you will need to connect them online, as they are now wanting to charge me for each one.
