HR34 HD Dvr From DirectTV

As I mentioned in an earlier thread I moved from Dish to DTV and opted to pay an extra $99 to have the HR34 HD DVR that has five receivers built in. Yes I said 5, which means I can record four channels at the same time and still watch live satellite programming.

Now I don't have to be concerned about how many channels or at what time I'm set to record. I pretty much know I'll still be able to view live satellite programming if I choose or I can watch any of the numerous programs I've already recorded. My HDD is 1 TB so space is no problem.

I also get to see my Padres on FSSD. And for the next 24 months my bill will be substantially smaller than my old Dish bill was.

After that I'll re-visit all the offers from both and see what my options are.

I'm a happy viewer.

So What! I have a 2 Hopper system with one more tuner plus the PTAT option. They each have 1TB of user recording space plus access to 2 2TB EHDs each. Enjoy DirecTV.

He'd prolly enjoy it more if he posted this in the Direct TV forum.

Didn't mean to offend anyone. I did have Dish since 1985 when there was only one satellite in the sky.

I merely wanted to share my experience so open minded people could see that there are other options available to them. My primary concern, since I'm on limited income (retired), was cost so money played a big part in my decision.

Whether you have Dish, DT, cable or OTA you'll enjoy a great HD picture compared to what we had growing up with 12" round Hoffman TV's.

Before we got our first TV we used to go to the neighbor's house and watch their TV through their front door.

No offence! Just correcting the record where you implied that the HR34 does something that you can't do with Dish equipment.

Iíve spent countless hours on this Dish forum, as Iíve been a Dish customer, and a faithful one I might add, since the early 80ís. I can empathize with those of you that are dedicated Dish supporters. Really, I can.

However, and there is always a however, when Dish didnít negotiate a contract with Fox to carry FSSD and then lost AMC I decided to see what the market place had to offer.

After reviewing and comparing the DirecTV package Choice with my existing Dish 200 I decided to give DirecTV a shot. Especially since my new monthly rate for the next 12 months will be $39.99. The second 12 months will be more but is still less than I was paying Dish.

And as for equipment, I only have one TV and had the VIP612 with two tuners. I know if you add Joeyís to your Hopper you can have more than the three with only the Hopper but with my HR34 receiver I have five receivers for my one TV so that made sense for me.

Not everyone will need Joeyís with their Hopper and perhaps not need more that three receivers that come with their Hopper but Iím very comfortable to be able to record, almost endlessly, and adding a 15 minute cushion to the end of each recording, whatever I select and still know that I can still watch a live broadcast.

While I now visit the DirecTV forum more often than before I still have a weak spot for Dish. In two years, if Iím still here, Iíll revisit my options again. I like to try to keep an open mind about these things.

May we all enjoy the greatest TV available in our lifetimes whether it is Dish, Direct, Cox, Verizon, FIOS or whatever. Happy viewing all!!!!!
