612 dvr is haunted

I think they are all haunted or possed.

Is there any fix to this?

Mine always is locked up, randomly rebooting, and being stupid.

Takes 5 minutes to watch tv everyday, the more i use it the worse it is.

Any suggestions?

Are you getting any error messages when this occurs? Do you lose signal before it reboots? Have you tried unplugging the receiver from the electrical outlet for 10 seconds to have it reboot? You may need a replacement receiver if this continues. Please let me know. Thanks.

Havent noticed any messages and it always has signal, at least the dish isnt blocked or raining

The unplug thing is usually the fix (if you want to call it that) but it does it the next day or couple later as well.

From reading this is almost normal for a 612, theres really no other option.....

i thought about switching to a 211 with hard drive but you lose a tuner

any other suggestions?

Of course ive had numerous service calls due to the 211 also....seems like my old 722 is the best, then 722k with minimal problems, then 512, 510, and worst is 612

My 722 did this exact same thing. Every morning had to unplug before we can watch TV. It would randomly lock up and reboot. It wasn't until the HD was completely dead before it finally said cannot connect to hard drive.

ahhhh, call them up and say, "my dvr is acting up can you help me since it's your system? whenever my stuff acts up I will not hesitate to call. That is why I shell out every month for good service.

one question, can i save the records to external drive, then put them back on the new box?

Yes, you can. You can move recordings off your receiver HD to the EHD and then move the recordings from the EHD to the replacement receiver HD. You can also do this with like receivers (722, 622, and 922). If you have further questions, please let me know. Thanks.

lol I have 2 612 receivers and they have done this from day one. spoken with customer service twice about it and they have no solutions. although, they have been kind enough to let me know that it just sort of happens with the 612. hopefully the hopper isnt priced ridiculously and I can get rid of the things for good.

I used to have a 612 and it did the same thing. I was told it was a software feature (note -- a Feature is a bug with senority) and they did not know when the software woould be upgraded. That was two years ago. The VIP722K DVR the 612 was replaced with works great!!

well just an update, the replacement 612 does not do the total hibernation thing and wont wake up. It always turns on and off now like its supposed to.

Still has some of the other minor issues though.....
