Sony KDL-42v4100 dark irregular shaped area on screen

Please follow link to image above. Anyone know what could be causing this? It is a dark area stretching from top to bottom of the screen, oddly shaped almost like a tornado. It looks worse in a "vivid" setting. To the right of the dark area, the colors are lighter. To the left, the colors are darker. All attached devices have been tested and verified. It is definitely a problem within the tv. I'm wondering if it is the screen itself, or perhaps a faulty circuit/logic board.

Any ideas out there?

I suggest contacting Sony support for this issue as they did extend warranties for just this. Not sure if it is still covered but it's certainly worth a try. Otherwise it would be less expensive to replace your display.

Hope this helps.

Hello! I'm new here and I found this forum because I am searching out this very problem! I'm so happy to hear I'm not the only one with the problem... It started after my warranty had run out and my initial search of this problem didn't come up with anything. I was told by Sony that the only thing I could do is have someone come out to look at it for $90. Either I choose to have the tv fixed (and the money would go towards repairs) or I would lose my $90 if I chose not to fix the tv. I don't know what is wrong. I would like to know an estimate of what it would cost to fix it so I know if I want to even try to come up with the $90 lol.

So I guess I would love to know what happened with you, Kenton76. Did you fix your tv? With the price of tvs nowadays, I don't know if it's worth putting money into a tv or if I should just go buy a new one...

Thanks for any help!
