Samsung dlp hl-r5667w squealing noise when failing to turn on

My Samsung DLP hl-r5667w is having problems.

After about 3 years, it is sometimes failing to turn on. About a third of the time when turning it on, the TV will make the start up noise and the lights will blink like normal, but the picture will not go on. There is a sound (similar to a dog whining) that sounds as if the light (or something) is trying to start up but then is failing. This then repeats every five seconds or. The only way I can get that to stop is to hold down the on/off button for about 30 seconds.

If I leave the TV alone for about 15 minutes, then turn it on, it will work perfectly fine. The problem seems to happen more often when the TV is turned on within 20-30 minutes of turning it off.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

It's possible that one of your fans is dirty causing the squeal and the shutdown. If you are handy, remove the back and very carefully vaccuum (do not blow) out any dust that has built up. Capacitors that are about to fail also can emit a whine or squeal. When you have the back off for cleaning, carefully inspect the board for any capacitors that appear puffy or bulging. If it is a capacitor then you are looking at an expensive repair - unless you are super handy with a soldering iron. Hope this helps.:hithere: BTW - welcome to the HD Forum!!!
