How much more money are any of us willing to spend on any new Dish Network channel that comes out?
Personally..the way things are going..I see my monthly bill costing $500 in 5 more years.

You should really research things more before you make statements such as this. I have been with DN for many years and they do have price increases, as all business do. But they usually happen several years apart, while cable companies will have increases about three times per year. And true DN does add channels at time, but unless it is something above the ordinary, there is not a price increase included with it. I do not include foriegn language channels as they are above the ordinary, and the small amout of the others are usually part of a new package, ie: HD package, Voom, ect. The HD package was introduced at $9.99, and it was several months later that ESPN HD and TNT HD were added, at no additional cost. Please do your research before making your statements. Those of us who have been with DN for a long period of time know your statements are not based on fact.

What I see them doing is selling HD in packages, with special introductory rates.

I am still in the intro rate on my basic HD service. They have since added the Voom channels (for an additional charge). When they add HD locals, I expect they will charge for that too.

When you look at a basic Dish package, the pricing is very competitive. But as soon as you start adding in the other services, it adds up.

When available I will be getting the HD locals, and will probably grab the Voom channels at the same time (hoping and somewhat assuming MPEG4 will mean they can put all the HD on a satellite or pair of sattelites I can get without having another antenna but time will tell of course).

Their HD package stuff is a little schizo at the moment since there are multiple layers of service:

Basic HD
Add CBS HD (as I recall, and if you have the waiver)
Add Voom
Future: Add Locals in HD I am sure will be an additional charge

While I am sure you are right about the other freebies they have added over time, I do see a lot of upcharging going on here.

I am willing to pay for more...if my next box doesn't suck as much as my current one does. And if I can get a better level of service. My reception, customer service experience, and overall experience were far better with DirectTV. If it weren't for some programming issues (channels I must have in my household that are available on Dish but not on DTV) I would still be a very content DirectTV customer.

My experiences with Dish have overall been very poor. A number of bad customer service interactions of various kinds (install date when no one showed up, another when someone was hours late, crummy performance on my 921, lots of lost signal when I have no obstructions whatsoever, etc)

Ah well, I keep hoping it will get better, but for the moment I am stuck with them regardless. I do keep a close eye on DTV's line up though...they may someday get back the stuff I want. And then I could get my Tivo back...nothing stands up to Tivo in the DVR world. The Dish interface is a pale immitation.

Well then, I guess I should consider myself lucky. I have a very good dealer who keeps me informed as to what to expect and how to get DN freebies. I currently have a super dish which I was upgraded to for free, I also have CBS HD (which there is no charge for) again becaused I had it on before my locals became available. I also receive my local HD Free due to being able to get them OTA. Of course I have paid more for some equiptment because I got things as they were introduced, then have the price lower after about a year, but I also got an 811 free on dishin' it up. Maybe it's more a matter of getting someone reliable. My nephew has Direct tv and he continuously has many of the same complaints I read on this site reguarding DN. Go figure.

Dishin it up is not a Free program..it usually costs $5.00 added to your monthly bill.I got the impression from what you wrote that you were saying the 811 was FREE OF CHARGE to you...what I think you were trying to say was ..you did'nt have to buy the 811..you just lease it on the dish in it up program.Dish in it up is not a free service of Dish Network.I own an 811-so I don't have to even pay a monthly lease fee.
As for you getting OTA channels..thats fantastic ! I'm very happy for you.I can not get OTA in my area. But I do get the free CBS HD channel that is carried through Dish Network.

I tried to get a less expensive Dish Network package..but since I have the America's Everything package ..Dish Network told me It would cost me MORE to downsize my package since alot of "freebies" come with The America's Everything Package..includes no charge for dvr service..we own one 510 dvr and lease one 510 dvr on dish in it up.

Seems like you and I are in the same boat-sort to speak.
Dish Network is getting more expensive as time goes by.
It's almost like an addiction for me.When I heard that Voom was coming to Dish Network I wanted it.Now I have it !I also pay extra a month for HDnet and HDmovies and all those HD channels...And it looks like I'll be paying more for Voom starting in January 2006 when 11 Voom HD channels are added in addition to the Voom channels I presently have.PLUS local HD channels will be carried through Dish network -and not through an OTA antenna in 2006 also..that will cost extra money too ! My guess about a $500 monthly bill in the near future is Not that far fetched.
We have 4 tv's...one of which has an HD receiver ...am hopeing to be able to buy another HDTV by Christmas and possibly one of those upcoming Mpeg4 receivers.
Is MOST of my paycheck going to Dish Network? YES IT IS:(:)
My cureent Dish Network monthly bill is $115 and change..this additionally includes two ala carte channels...Again,we have a total of 4 tv's.

You get a better deal than I do...I am paying $95 for 2 TV's, and I don't have CBS HD or Voom at this point. I own 1 of my receivers but not the other, and I don't get the everything package - just America's Top 180.

I guess I should look into upgrading my service to see if I can save some money ; ).

definitely look into upgradeing your service. If one of my tv's had America's Everything Package I would be paying about $90.00 a month.

Yes, I do know the 811 is not free, but you would still pay $5 per month as an additional fee if the receiver was purchased. Additional fee vs rental fee. Same diff.

Sure the 811 is free, mine was.
And there is NO lease fee on new DHA plans.

rickbbb,
3 buck increas back in FEb. - first increase in three years.
10 HD Voom channel for 5 bucks, optional but worth it.
(my old A$$delphia cable went up $13 2 yrs ago - no added service!!!)

added DN channels with no increas in fees:
TNTHD
ESPNU
NFL
GAC
Military
Men's
and prolly others,

rickbbb....

What a wonderfully honest post!

Yes, it is an addiction. I'm hooked, too.

About a C-note/mo, I guess and I still want MORE!

MORE!

US$500/mo scares me a little, but US$150 is OK.

A few less lunches out and a few less Starbucks every week and you're even, yes?

But look at the hours of enjoyment a person gets for that money. It's really pennies and hour. Cheaper than gas.

Happy HD viewing, my friend! :)

Yes,it's definitely worth paying extra money for the channels I like..
Only gripe I have is..they advertise the hell out of movies on their pay per view channels..movies that should be part of our monthly price for Dish Network ..I think they should !
