that when streaming Netflix thru the Viera Cast feature, you can not enjoy the movies in surround sound. The Pannys will not export the Netflix audio to your home theater/SS system.

what plasmas are you talking about? I got mine working through using an opitcal cable. but you can also use the 1.4 audio return to get sound from the receiver.
that info is incorrect.

They are talking about the new x30 series and Netflix only.

G25. I'm not trying to get sound from receiver..but to it. Tried the optical output cord. Talked to tech from both Denon and Panasonic. Both said that when streaming Netflix into TV with VeiraCast you can not export it to another device, regardless of whether you're using the optical cord or the audio return thru the HDMI. This is due to copyright laws as already stated. Netflix required the export blocking as part of the agreement to allow Viera Cast access to Netflix.

Now you can buy a SS system that will stream Netflix and this would solve problem but those who already own a system will have to resort to using the DVD's.

What I'm not yet sure of is if I can buy a Ethernet/Netflix ready BR player and go from it to my Denon receiver and then to the tv?

Yes it will as Blur-ay players do not have that restriction becuause they have to export audio, they have no built in speakers.

It does work with every Netflix enabled Blur-ay player I have seen and/or worked with.

I remember calling panasonic online service and talking with them. I own the gt25 from last year. I was able to plug my optical cable to the receiver from the tv. I think I used tv/cd. you have to set the receiver to do the sound. I own the rc270 receiver. I think if my tv from last year can do it. then then the new models of 2011 can do that.

I have a 2010 set also ruby. Like stated, I hooked up the audio optical cable but no sound. I figured I had the in-put set wrong on the Denon, so I called them. They told me its because the Pannys cant export netflix. I then called Panasonic customer support. They confirmed what Denon told me, and the reason why.

Now it could be that if your set will indeed export netflix..... perhaps you have an earlier manufacturing date and this block was added to the later models?

Thanks L2W, I planned to get a BR anyhow so this sounds like the fix. Sure didn't plan to spend the extra cabage for the internet option tho.

Must say I'm a bit soured on Panasonic for not disclosing this detail in all their literature and Viera Cast hype. I told themexactly that in their follow up survey.

Read post #6 above. We all get your TV exports sound but not for netflix and your TV is not a 2011 model.

You can find a LG BD550 for around $80 on line.

I got mine working with the netflix. that is the reason that I hooked up it up to the receiver. it worked fine. I mostly use the oppo 93 or the panasonic 210 model for netflix.

OK, one more time, is your TV a 2011 model in the x30 series, if not then it doesn't apply to you or your TV, This is something new.

L2W, mines not the new 30 series either . Its a G25. Which I believe is a 2010 model? Thanks for the tip on the 550.

ruby, this has nothing to do with what receiver you're using.

I was explaining on how I was doing the audio return. you need both the tv and receiver if you are doing the audio return.

L2W, I can understand why Netflix doesn't want tv's to export the signal to such devices as DVD recorders, and such as people would be ripping dvds and thus the copyright issues. But if we can go from BR player to receiver whats to prevent someone from going from BR to DVD recorder and doing same? I dont see how Netflix is accomplishing anything other than boosting the sale of BR players.

I don't understand it either but I don't know all of the details of the contract between Panasonic and Netflix. May have something to do with DMCA or HDCP...

Spoke with Panasonic support again. They confirm that I can pass the Netflix thru a BR to the receiver, but they said its best to use the optical cable to do so.

Can anyone tell me if the LG550 has an optical out connector?

All blu-ray players (at least every single one I have ever seen) have an optical out.
