I have a RCA Scenium HDTV HD50LPW166YX12 lamp 8. For awhile now the general power button indicator would happen and the TV would automatically turn off after the power button finished blinking 5 times. I would generally be able to turn it off, let it sit for a few seconds and then turn it back on without much problem.

Tonight while watching TV there was an extremely loud pop then the picture went out. The TV Sound is still working just fine. When I turn it off and back on I hear a sound like something is trying to start but missing. Is this really the lamp? I don't want to spend all of the money to get a new lamp only to find out that it isn't the lamp and I need to scrap the TV.

I've been reading a lot of forums and it sounds like this is a common problem with this model but noone provides a solution or a suggested solution. Can anyone help?

It's likely that the loud pop you heard was the lamp going. If you pull it out and look at it you will probably see pieces rattling around inside the lamp. That's obviously a certain sign that you need a new lamp.

I agree with Chuck. Check the lamp by taking it out and inspecting it. Just do not let your bare hands touch these lamps because like the Halogen lamps in headlights now, oil from your skin from touching it will cause the lamp to die prematurely.
