football scores cut-off on HDTV?

Newbie here. We have a 42" Panasonic TH-42PX50U and Time Warner Cable HD box (by Scientific American). Whenever we watch something on the HD channels the top and bottom are cut-off. Since we are in HD, we cannot change the aspect. Is this a problem with the TV, the settings, or the cable box? I miss seeing the ticker at the bottom of the screen that has scores from other games; the other option is to watch it from the regular digital signal, but you lose the HD that way.

I think you hit the nail on the head. You've got an option somewhere that is converting your picture to a different aspect ratio. It's most likely stretching the picture off the screen. The problem is that both your TV as well as your tuner have available options to do this stretching. You'll have to figure out which one is doing it.

If I had to take a guess, I would guess that your TV Tuner box is the culprit. Make sure you get into the "setup" options and check the choices. Try changing the aspect from 16x9 to 4:3 letterbox and see if you can at least see the tickers temporarily. This will give you a point to start your troubleshooting at.

Best of luck!

I think his problem is just opposite that... he's setup for 4:3 with a 16:9 display.
