Olevia 532 B12 Problems

10-20-2010, 06:54 PM
We just bought a used Olevia 532 B12 LCD TV & can't get it to find any channels through our cable (Comcast Houston.. standard cable connections). When you pull up the OSD menu, for instance, & choose all the settings to automatically scan for cable channels, it won't let you choose that option & does nothing. Then when we go to the settings for the time/date, it won't allow you to change anything & is stuck on eastern standard time. By selecting "enter", it should choose central standard time, but doesn't. And it won't let you change the date or anything. It does, however, play movies on our DVD player.

Our question is... is this a tuner problem? Could something be locked on the remote? Or on the tv perhaps, that we can't find? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! OH.. also looked to see if it had the latest version of firmware & if what I saw on one of these forums is correct, we have the latest - 527 532 version A33-5-2.)

My dear scttward:
I have an Olevia 537H since Feb/2007 and it worked very good for 2 years, after that time the tuner is not working and I can not make a "Channel Search" or change channels with the Remote buttons "Up" and "Down", only by typing the channel number.

I tried to find someone to fix the problem but several repair shops told me that this manufacturer went broke and there are no parts anymore. Shame, it was a nice HDTV.

Well... for now we've tried hooking it up straight through our cable box. So far so good!!! Just means we have to get an extra cable box now though. Darn it. But at least it's working!!

That makes it even more likely that it is the internal tuner that has gone bad. You can buy an external tuner (make sure it has both a ATSC & QAM tuner in it) instead of paying rent to the cable company, but you would lose the interactive cable guide you get with the cable box. I wouldn't want to go without that myself so I get the boxes.
