Hi I'm a newb here and I'm considering purchasing the oppo upscaling dvd player but would like to know if it would work with my Sony KV-40XBR700 tv. I read that the tv has to be hdcp compliant. and if it will work what's the best way to connect it to my tv. Does the oppo have a component output or is it just dvi thanks

that the TV/monitor doesn't have to be HDCP compliant. Compliance starts with the originating source of the signal. In rough terms: If the source is HDCP compliant it "asks" the TV/monitor whether it is compliant; if it doesn't respond then the signal from the source is terminated. If it is compliant then it passes the signal and then re-asks the question periodically, something like every two minutes. There are a lot of TVs out there which are not compliant and for them the OPPO is a real boon. Also IMO a real boon for anyone wanting to get the most out of their TV.

Also OPPO does it's best (and its best is very good) when connected via DVI (or DVI to HDMI). It was designed as a DVI outputing player. If you are NOT connecting via the DVI output then I would suggest looking elsewhere.

Haven't a clue as to how good it will look on your TV. Give them a call or check thru the AVS thread someone may have posted their results with your TV and this player there.

thanks for your response. I have a few more questions. so you're saying that my tv has to be hdcp compliant in order for the oppo dvd player to display a picture. How would I know if my tv is HDCP Complient. I was also wondering if my television automatically upscales 480p to 1080i. thanks for your help :)
