The Sony KD-34XBR960 34" has 720p native resolution! I thought CRTs could never have a native resolution of 720p?

Here's the link to Sony: http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?ProductSKU=KD34XBR960

The referenced page link clearly states that it has a 'Hi-Scan 1080i' display!!!

Yup, definitely misread that one. The reference was to 720p sources not display. :)

Oh, cause it said: Pick which "native resolution" you want, so I picked 720p. 2 TVs came up, a DLP and a CRT. I was excite about it too, darn it.

Irregardless, it's the best HD picture by far. Nothing beats this puppy.

1) Sony doesn't make DLP sets, and it never has.

2) The KD34XBR360 can accept a 720p signal but it displays it as a 1080i picture.

LOL!

I know Sony doesn't make DLPs. But it was DLP.com the had the search. The DLP was a Toshiba I think.

I think you're overanalyzing the situation a bit. Yeah, 720p is beautiful, but I'm tellin' you, GT4 in 1080i is unbelievable. You WILL NOT be disappointed with a CRT and game box running in 1080i, especially if the signal is pure. Upconverted 480p is even sweet! You'll see what I mean once you get one home. I realize the anxiety that comes along with the big purchase(ja2935 will tell you how anal I was- LOL), but I assure you- you'll enjoy it.

I absolutely agree. I actually prefer to watch sports on my HD CRT than my RPLCD. Only a gamer like yourself could save Rad now. Regardless (LOL, intended for Ja :) ) what happens, I hope he doesn't regret getting the DLP and realize that the picture quality is less tolerable than "flicker" which is not even be noticable to the majority of eyes.

I've never seen a DLP(outside of the store that is) up close enough to really say one way or another. OK, don't laugh- my last set(25" Tosh) didn't even have S-Video, so this is a HUGE step up for me. I love every minute of it. To be brutally honest, my opinion is a bit one-sided, but I wanted a plasma-quality picture at a poor man's price. My Tosh gives me that. I looked at CRT rear projections- nice if you sit straight on. LCD's- washed out blacks and compression-like quality if you sit too close or the set is too large for the room. DLP's and plasmas- more than I wanted to spend(LCD's fit here as well). I know my screen isn't huge, but in a room that's 13' wide and with 3' of that gone between the set itself and my sofa, it's almost perfect. Finally, I learned a lot of things from the people who populate these forums and felt much better when I made my purchase...

I don't know if I made myself clear. I know 1080i will look good for games "NOW", like xbox and ps2, because the games are made in 30fps. But, I'm talking about xbox 360. (I'm sorry I have to keep coming back to this). Xbox 360 games will be mostly in 60fps. I'm planning for the future.

Jsslifelike, do you have any games that play in 60fps? Do they look better in 1080i or 720p?

My set does the 540p coversion trick and to tell ya the truth, I can't really tell much difference. Other than the occasion quirk(which I'm not entirely sure that it isn't because of the game or box output itself), they're both relatively close. I dunno how 720p compares to that, but maybe I'll have my buddy bring his X-box over to test a 720p game and let you know...

Regarding the sony 34xbr. Can you tell me what the difference is between this set and the 34hs420/500. What does it have that makes it better plus more expensive. Also, as far as 720p/1080i and the xbox 360, the 360 is going to play in 1080i as well, right? There won't be a lag issue? At leat that is the impression I have gotten from the people here.
Thanks.
