Serial Digital Video vs. High Definition Video

Hi! I was just wondering a couple things about SD Video and HD video:
1) What are the bit rates and data flows for each?
2) How fast would my storage drives have to be to sustain video flow for these formats without dropping frames or freezing?

Any help or resources would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I happened onto an article covering this subject HERE. (http://www.theperfectvision.com/newsletter/tpv50/hidef_pc.html)

Also check out this page: DTV Bandwidths (http://alvyray.com/DigitalTV/DTV_Bandwidths.htm)

The question you posed is quite complex and depends on the decoding format used as far as the transfer capabilities of a hard drive or satellite transponder for that matter. Voom has chosen the mepeg-4 encoding, so they can pack a lot into each of their transponders.
