Need some advice on my setup

hello everyone, this is my first time posting on these forums so bear with me as I try to get across my point. I was doing some reading last night about HDMI cables and optical cables and using them in your setup and it got me to second guessing how I have my home theater set up. I was under the impression that when setting up all your gear, it was better to use HDMI for video and then use optical cables for audio. Well after doing some reading, I'm thinking I might be wrong in that assumption. I do know that HDMI cables carry both sound and video but I didnt realize that the bandwidth capability on the HDMI cables was bigger then that on the optical cables. Here is my question to you guys and gals, I'm going to run down my setup and explain how I have everything set up and if you could possibly point out where I could improve that would be wonderful.

LG 42" 720p (42PQ30C)

Yamaha HTR 6130

I have a Verizon Fios set top box and a DVD player hooked into the receiver via an HDMI Cable and a optical digital cable for the TV and a coaxial digital cable for the DVD player. I have an HDMI cable running to the TV to have it so i dont have to keep switching inputs for things to work. I also have a PS3 that is hooked directly into the TV via an HDMI cable and an optical digital audio cable going to the receiver. I guess my question in the end is how can I best optimize the components I have currently to get the best sound out of them all.

I am thinking that for whatever 2 components I decided to run through the receiver, I can ditch the optical cables because the HDMI can handle both the video and audio.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If you need anymore info on my setup feel free to ask. Also if this belongs in a different forum feel free to move it.

Yamaha's spec's are confusing, but I don't think your 6130 actually handles audio over HDMI. If that is the case you only have optical and digital coax as digital audio inputs.
