Is there a browser for Windows 7 x64 that's worth a damn?

Chrome fails me on ad blocking and having a reliable detachable downloader.

Firefox fails me on performance on 7. Just horrid when loading pages with a bunch of jpegs.

I've yet to have any issues with Firefox. Works like a champ for me.

Sorry bro :(

Instead of Firefox, try Pale Moon which is a customized for speed version...

google chrome runs stupiddddd fast on my laptop, i mean really really really fast, opens in literally less then 1 sec when double clicking it and websites load like instantly. no crash or no, no problems with any websites, then again i dont go on ad-filled websites or porn sites lol.

HDF has an insane amount of ads. This is the main offender of any website I frequent. Chrome is what I'm using now. Speed is good, almost double what I got with Firefox on 7, but I get a few rendering problems and the adblock support is really poor.

I also don't like the limited bookmarking features and the fact you can't reliably download anything over a couple GB.

I use firefox on my good computer and my crappy work laptop, and I have no problems with it. Maybe close the tab with the porn torrents on it? :D

Everytime I try to download one of my Direct2Drive games it won't work. Big L4D mods won't install when I download them through Chrome. Same file through FF and it's fine.

I did boot Firefox back up for general browsing for the first time in a while and it seems to be a little better. Chrome just has too many eyesores for me to use on a daily basis. I guess I'll stick with the tepid image loading.

Okay, not sure how you guys surf the net, I think at most I have...7-8 tabs open and on average 3-4 tabs.

But my girlfriend just told me Firefox crashes often for her (Winodws 7 64-bit, AMD Phenom II tri-core (forgot the actual model number) so I'm going to pull a Kamspy here...

This is definitely an AMD issue, runs fine on Intel hardware.

haha. :D

I have at most 3 tabs open. Usually 2.

But I do zoom in quite a bit with the ctrl+mouse scroll, and that seems to be what kills my performance in FF. But Chrome scales like shit when I zoom. :/

Yeah I rarely zoom.

Maybe you have to much leeching going on and its just draining your system resources in general?

I really don't know what it can be, maybe an add-on. I don't use any add-ons on my FF, just personal tweaks.

Nah I don't upload anything. I'm a stingy bastard.

Only extensions are noscript, flashblock and adblock. Tin foil essentials basically.

Have you tried disabling them just to see if it helps?

Are the sites giving you issues using those new dynamic ad systems that scan your crap then post crap you've recently visited or something like that - which is crap?

I remember a while back this site use to lock up for me at work when trying to visit it, the ads would cause the server to time out.

I don't get any of the ad stuff loaded into the browser. You can lock things up pretty tight with that combo I posted. I found out the hard way when ars took the douchy route and blocked their content from ad block users.

Chrome's bootleg adblock still loads the ads in the page formatting but doesn't show the images after they've been there for a second or two. It also doesn't block all the google ads in the margins and banners among other omissions. The smart ads in forums like HDF still load with it too.

Firefox with the holy trinity get's rid of all of it.

Dunno, I don't mind the ads (been living them since the 9600 baud days.)

Keep tinkering I guess.

It's good enough for now. I just have both browsers in my taskbar. It's easy enough to use them for their own strengths I guess.

what ads on HDF? are they pop up ads? or do you mean the small image banner on the top of the pages? "Blue Jeans Cable" lol.

have you tried IE 64bit edition? it comes with Win 7 64.
