I want to buy a Blue-ray player for my husband. I don't want to spend too much. However, I want to make a smart purchase. Quality is a big issue. Osso seems to be the favored.. Although what would be 2nd place among your oppinions.?? I appreciate the time.. Thank you in advance for your help..

Yes the Oppo BDP-80 is a fine Blu-ray player. Why not a 1080 Panasonic plasma?

Yes the Oppo BDP-80 is a fine Blu-ray player. Why not a 1080 Panasonic plasma?

1. The price was right! $500 like new...The set was not compatible w/ orig owner's Mac computer for conferencing. He is an ebay seller that is local...so no shipping fees.
2. Reviews on the 720 were exclt. Many said they could not tell the difference between the two?
3. We have a 1080 panny 42" in another room...so we'll see.

The Oppo BDP-80 it will be...

I revieved the OppO BDP-80 Blue Ray and it is presently hooked-up & working...thx again!

However, a slight problem occurred when I went to plug in the Optic Fiber Cable. The little barn down somehow came off of the spring-loaded, metel retainer spring that allows the door to swing-in when you insert the cable. It came off & lodged itself inside the port. I did get the door out, but now the optic cable does not snap-in there real tight. I had both the door & spring in my hand.

I did manage to put the door & spring somewhat back in position on top of the cable, so it would take up some of the tolerance & plugged it in. I have it in there, but it's not super tight. The sound seems to be functioning OK. I am wondering what would be my options at this point, as I can't stand the thought of having to go through the process of returning it...! :(

Call Oppo customer support. I'm quite sure they would exchange it for you.

Although the player is operating OK, it's still troublesome knowing that I have to be careful so as not to allow the optic cable to come out of the port, especially when moving the unit around. Given your suggestion to call them to see if they'd might exchange it, looks like the only way to make it right again? To my advantage, Oppo's main office happens to be located about 15 miles south of me in Mountain View, CA. They'll be receiving a call come Monday...

same thing happened to me with a Toshiba HD DVD player. Cursed twice and just stuck the cable in. Been a couple of years since the cursing,,,but it still works! But since you just bought the unit,,,yup,,,give Oppo a call. Btw - good choice in player.

After a giving me a RMA # by phone this morning, Oppo was kind enough to simply exchange the broken Blu-Ray for a new one, upon me dropping it off to them...w/in a matter of minutes.
Great Customer Service! Thx Oppo :yippee:
