HD net movies really HDTV?

Are the 20 year old movies really in HD or a close imitation.I know they could not have been filmed that way.Just trying to decide if the DTV package is worth it or not.Right now I just have the Hughes box with a Tosh DVR with CD recorder and basic TIVO and would upgrade to the DVR but just don't know if it really pays.Just don't seem to see enough new movie content.

I would say that most of the older movies are being upconverted. The picture quality of these older movies is much clearer than standard definition broadcasts.

If the transfer is from the original film, it's resolution is superior to HD anyway. That's one of the beautiful things about movies and HD, if the transfer is done well it should look fantastic & be the first worthy format outside of a good theater. Hogan's Heroes looks fantastic, for example. It's like seeing it for the first time. I have seen quite a bit of variation in quality, but I think storage, restoration and transfer quality are to blame. Not the original format (35mm film).
