Loosing West Coast Feed

I live in Georgia and recently received notification from Directv that a new law had been passed and as of August 25 they would no longer be able to provide the west coast feed to me. I can still get the NY feed. If true this will effect everyone across the country a little differently and at different times. But it would appear we will soon only be able to receive a feed from our own timezone. Sorry to hear that.

No the west coast feed has not went away yet. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it doesn't.

mrm,
How is it that you live in Georgia but get the NY locals? I just got hooked up to HD yesterday and found that I don't get any NY locals (I was expecting to). I haven't bought an OTA antenna yet but thought in the meantime I could view network programming in HD by viewing NY locals. I live outside of DC so if you can receive NY locals, maybe I can too. Can you help me out?

Where in Ga are you? What's your ZIP? I've tried several times and they won't grant me NY stations.

I got a wavier years ago for the NY and LA feed for locals. My zip is 30101. I live too far out to get locals over OTA so the waviers were approved. Don't know if things are the same now as they were then.

Hmmmm! Based on your zip code your in Acworth, GA! Your less than 30 miles from all the major broadcaster's towers in Atlanta! I live in the zip code 30224 - Griffin, GA and Im further away from the towers than you are! In fact Im almost 40 miles away and located in a valley of hills and 50 - 70 ft trees and I was still only able to get a waiver from ABC!

At least you got a waiver. All I've gotten so far is the FOX channel that everyone's gotten. Can't get ABC, CBS, or NBC with my stupid SS-1000 square shooter. Use to have ABC.

I received the same letter, and I was supposed to loose all four of my east coast HD channels. Well, I got back from a long vacation at the Outer Banks and I still have them. Who knows, I have had them since 9/04.

Looks like they're pulling the plug on some of these today, at least in my case...

I read the new law(s). There are some exclusions for "grandfathered" subscribers who've been receiving distant SD feeds from both coasts for years, but things are definitely now stricter as far as digital/HD distant networks are concerned, and who actually qualifies to receive them. Basically, if you're on the west coast, forget about an HD east coast feed... It's more restricted based on your time zone under the new rules.

As someone here already pointed out, we have the powerful lobby of NAB to thank. They represent the interests of the stations/affiliates throughout the country, not the viewers/public.

How can we form a group to combat this???? I don't understand why if we are willing to pay for east and west why we can't do it. We must form a stronger group to make this happen.....

Good luck. It would need to be a really large group to compete against all the companys that own TV stations.

Hey Calicogang. Did you get yourself a new "Brew Thru" t-shirt or a new ball cap at "WRV"?

I believe the only feed that will be lost is the west coast (CBS- channel 81) in HD. I lost my feed as well but I got in waiver when I got my direct tv this Jan. and i still have my CBS west channel 381 in SD. It is not HD but I can still watch games on the west coast. It's not gonna matter anyway cause NBC will be airing the NFL next year anyway...and we will all be screwed ( :banghead: ) those of us on the east coast like myself.
