In addition to the built-in HDTV tuner, mem stick, 2 RF inputs and an upgraded tube, I see that the SX flavor of this set allows adjustment of HD signals (zoom, stretch, etc.) while the HS does not. Is this an important difference to consider? Tnx.

Zoom and stretch can be nice in some limited cases. Depending on how you tolerate black bars, remember, just because it's widescreen doesnt mean you wont have black bars.

However, there are other differences between those sets. Thus far, the HS models have had far more reliability complaints than the XS and XBR models. Also, the XS is equipped with Sony's Super Fine Pitch Grill, the same one found on the top of the line XBR models. Whereas the HS is not. This feature results in much finer picture detail and accuracy, among other things.

Heres a nice side by side comparison (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-saWnbIunHMW/cgi-bin/ProdComp.asp?g=148350&c=16&s=0&cc=01&pt2=0&ITM158KV30HS4=on&ITM158KD30XS9=on&x=12&y=3).

Basically, the XS gets you an XBR without some luxury features. All the performance without the *flash*.
