In short for anyone whom has played Halo it is well known to have the very best matchmaking system. You were always matched with people of your own level and attaining the highest ranks was a quest that remains difficult for even the most skilled players. Anyway Shacknews just had an interview with Bungie and they shared all kinds of information and right now it seems confusing to me but it seems like it will remain king in terms of matchmaking.

Use the link (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/62865) because its loaded with pictures and makes it much easier to understand.

I hate Bungie matchmaking :( 20 minutes waiting for a game isn't fun. (yeah, I'm that crap!)

Perhaps your thinking of a different game, because that is not Bungie at all..

In fact Bungie has had the best MP functions in console gaming, aside from servers they are the best dev in regards to thier community, match making and ranking..

A high rank in Halo means something, or your a cheater

Yeah definitely thinking of the wrong game, Halo matchmaking is *top-notch* for sure. All other devs with competitive type games should be begging them for cliffnotes on how to do it right

Halo 3 was the game I'm thinking of, used to take me and my mate ages to find games on that as it'd match us up, then change its mind, and start the whole thing again.

Actually Mike is probably right and I know why that happens. Halo 3 matchmaking system pays very close attention to your skill level if you were in a very diverse party rank wise then it probably took time because it searches for people around the same ranks to even up the parties. If you combined this with a playlist that had few people on then the result was a a significant long wait to play. I know this used to happen to me on the Objective playlist I could never get my 50 there only cause once I hit 45 on it was near impossible to find a game.

You can avoid this problem by having the host change your search criteria to quick match or whatever its called. This problem appeared way after release when the number of players started to drop from what I remember but if you play the popular playlists like Team Slayer, Team Doubles, Lone Wolves and any MLG playlist wait times were nonexistent even up till now.

Sorry for the double post but here is an update about how the whole upgrade system will work. So far I like it sounds good and keeps the playing field level the daily/weekly challenges should keep people coming back. With the beta coming May 3rd(Shame on ya kam for not knowing) Bungie should be releasing a lot more info in the coming weeks
