I can't believe they are going to release this movie strip down - no 3D element, no extras.

"The highest-grossing motion picture of all-time is set to arrive in stores on both DVD and Blu-ray, but you know in your heart of hearts and what your eyes see that Blu-ray is the only way to go with this cinematic experience. And now a caveat of sorts…"

What do you guys think? Here is the article (http://www.hd-report.com/2010/03/16/the-biggest-film-event-in-history-comes-home-on-earth-day/).

According to James Cameron , the 3D version will come out in November . Double dipping for sure , but is the 2D version in April really worth it when the 3D version is still playing in many theaters in March ?

Wife and I saw it last week in 3D, anyone that can duplicate what we saw and heard in their own home will spend much more than we did! With a big steak and cold beer at Outback just before the show too!

Well sure he is double dipping. But how many people will have these new 3D tvs by next month? I think that is why they are waiting on it. heck even if you buy the TV can you afford the 3d glasses?

I'm sure we'll find out more about the BD and 3DBD next week but we should find out more during a press event planned for March 23 featuring producer Jon Landau and director James Cameron

The April 22 release date is coincided with Earth Day and I guess they are going to strike while the iron is hot. There is still hype surrounding this movie and sales should be very good. Even if they wait to release it next year, how many people or what percentage will have the 3D equipment to utilize it. The other side of that is the people that do buy a complete new 3D home theatre will demand the release of the Avatar 3DBD.

I for one, as some people here know, will not be waiting for the 3D BD. How much would you guess the 3DBD will cost?
Whatever it is, I'm glad I don't have to pay the premiums.

Double-dipping for sure - first get the 2D-version and next year when the market is becoming more mature - release the 3D-version...

Update March 24
http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=4338

There will not be any extras included with the April 22 release. They said because they want to save all the room on the disc to have the best possible quality. This is great. I love that the disc will not compromise quality for advertisements and added features but I don't think they are being totally honest about the reasons why. The bonus features could be offered on a seperate disc but instead they will offer them on a registered website where it is believed they will offer a coupon for the 3D blu-ray. They should also offer a seperate bonus feature disc with the 3DBD to encourage double dipping.

Does anyone know where the prices will be lowest? I've heard the BD version will list $39.99. I've seen pre-orders on Amazon for $24.99 (BD). Anyone seen anything cheaper? What about BB?

me and about 12 other losers :)

There is actually a menu, but no extras or anthing. I was expecting the Blu-ray to just start up black screen like Netflix. The movie on the menu screen is pretty nice too.

BB had it for $22.99 and Amazon has it for $19.99. Its a trade off when you consider shipping.

Target also has the BR for $19.99 so if you must go to BB then just have them price match it.

I work in sales and right now we have the 55" samsung 7000 series LED 3d tv, samsung 3d bluray player for 3999 (CAD) and if you buy them together you get two sets of the samsung 3d glasses and monsters vs aliens 3d bluray for free... Pretty good deal considering the 46" LED (UN46B6000) was the same price last year when it came out for just the TV.

I checked walmart out the other night and they had the blu-ray + DVD copy for like 29, not a bad deal really considering the dvd alone was 19.99 (keeping in mind those are canadian prices)

We were pumped for the release but figured the 3d copy would come out at the same time, we wanted it to demo in the store.. guess we're in for a bit of a wait.
