Pretty strong month for console sales. I thought ME2 would have been higher since it was released late jan. Surprised LAG did not make the list. EA spent quite a lot of $ hyping DI. PS3 pulls a 360 ;)

1. Nintendo DS: 613.2K
2. Xbox 360: 422.0K
3. Wii: 397.9K
4. PlayStation 3: 360.1K
5. PSP: 133.4K
6. PlayStation 2: 101.9K

1. BioShock 2 (Take-Two, Xbox 360): 562.9K
2. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo, Wii) 555.6K
3. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision, Xbox 360) 314.3K
4. Just Dance (Ubisoft, Wii) 275.4K
5. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo, Wii) 272.5K
6. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision, PS3) 252.8K
7. Mass Effect 2 (EA, Xbox 360) 246.5K
8. Dante's Inferno: Divine Edition (EA, PS3) 242.5K
9. Dante's Inferno (EA, Xbox 360) 224.7K
10. Heavy Rain (Sony, PS3) 219.3K

Hmm that's funny Cyg since Lag doesn't Lag at all unlike MW2.

Definitely pretty strong month for consoles, surprised to see the 360 outsell the Wii.

Has ME2 even broken a million sales yet? It's been really low on the list the past couple of months. Disappointing. Dante's Inferno was "okay". I enjoyed it, the story at least, but the game play was a poor mans God of war I.

I guess any game that gets a certain amount of hype? :what:

The only "hype" I've seen for Mag has been on internet forums. Not exactly a lot of advertisement for it around. Dante's Inferno on the other hand was advertised during the freaking SUPErBOWL. That's some huge coin put down for 500,000 sales they may have had regardless.

It was 1st or 2nd for January... the game's only been out for 2 months total.

I think US sales put it at 800,000 thus far. It's definitely broken the million marker worldwide.

You're right it sold 500K in January for 2nd place. I still would have expected it to do a COUPLE million units almost immediately between the PC and the 360. That's a very expensive game not to do huge numbers.

MAG was advertising pretty heavily on ESPN for about 2 or 3 weeks. Didn't see anything anywhere else though.

Well PC units sold aren't revealed. My numbers are for the Xbox 360 version only.

Surprised Dante's Inferno did more on PS3 than 360. Suppose it was people who couldn't wait for GoW3 that propped it up.

I don't know, in my own mind I'm thinking if a console has a fair amount of good games, a person is going to be picky about what they buy.

Just commenting on Mike's post about buying Dante's Inferno. I personally wouldn't buy a game unless it was good, and for sure wouldn't purchase one just to pass the time.

Think it's more down to the genre of the game. More hack and slash fans will likely have bought a PS3 than 360. You're more likely to play lower rated games if they're for your preferred genre.

To suggest there aren't as many good PS3 games around atm is a bit inaccurate. Quite a few multiplatform games are now selling more units per system on PS3 than they are on 360 so it's not a new phenomenon, just with the near 2:1 lead the 360 has in the US you don't expect the sales advantage for PS3 over there.

ME2 was released on jan 26 and I think it has sold about 800k on 360.

That is actually so sad, as relatively poor sales might mean that they do a poor job on the final ME game. Does anyone even know what the development costs were? All of that incredible talent could not have been cheap.

I'm hoping they sold like a million units on the PC or something which isn't counted, but I'd be surprised if that were the case. And the fact that I've already seen it discounted places not 2 months in is pretty telling as well.

I'd bet they spent a ton on Voice talent alone. Seth Green, Martin Sheen, and umm the fat chick that used to look like Trinity can't come that cheap.

It has sold close to a million in US in less than 2 months and that is "sad"? I think that is pretty good, esp for a 3rd party game. ME does not have the name recognition as a halo. I think it will continue to sell well over the next few months due to word of mouth.

According to VGChartz.com (I know, I know, but they can be fairly accurate at times) the original Mass Effect sold a grand total 2.12 million units worldwide. Mass Effect 2, on the other hand has sold 1.52 million units worldwide, after being available for less than 2 months.

I think it'll go on to sell 3 million total worldwide which would be a respectable increase since the first game.

Games rarely continue to sell well over a few months, release week/month is do or die for most projects this is why dev costs up there with hollywood blockbusters will kill the industry, they just don't have the legs/alternative revenue streams in gaming that hollywood can bank on.

Mass Effect 2 has plummeted down the charts almost as rapidly as Bayonetta did. Games in general just don't seem to be selling as well atm as devs/publishers expect/need to keep the projects in the black.

They can count on an extra sale soon when I've got a PC that'll run it. Hopefully ME2 will be one of the few games that does manage to have legs on the 360. However it's already bargain bin fodder over here now on 360 :( While Modern Warfare 2 continues to sell well at 45.

That's the thing with the movies. You do 40 million in the box office and that isn't great, but then it gets to go on DVD/BRD and make money. And then gets money when starz shows it, and more money when a network shows it. So there's lots of "Extra" revenue coming in.

With games, even with the 60 dollar price tag making up a lot of the slack it's still "sell once" and then that's it. So they either do good in the first few months or they don't. I really do wonder if 2 million copies after paying the distributors their 30% or whatever covers the cost to make the thing.

Did bayo sell over 500k on 360 or PS3 during the first few days (or month) it launched as ME2 did? While ME2 most likely won't make the top 10 for the 3rd month in a row, it could be in the top 20 for another month or two. It will definitely sell over 1 million in US only, which would be considered a success and eclipse ME's sales easily.

and Dante's Inferno spanning across both platforms. Less so for people who don't own or plan on owning a PS3.

Kam, DI wasn't THAT bad at the end. It's not a great game per say, but it wasn't AWFUL OMG WHY DID I BUY THIS... though I did rent it, so maybe that made it sting less.

Hey renting a game still helps it though, if no one rented it less copies overall would have been bought. So you are still doing your part :D

Also the game is not as bad as everyone would have us believe, I agree some things could be tweaked for a more enjoyable experience but overall it was a solid 7.5/10 game.
